Summary:
Eravision Films and New World Prints with The Mission Cultural
Center for Latino Arts invite you to a Tardeada Fundraiser for
the documentary film “Art and Revolutions.”
Brief Background:
This film explores the story of Mexican publisher Antonio Vanegas
Arroyo (1852-1917) and printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada
(1852-1913) whose twenty-three year collaboration (over 100 years
ago!) inspired and influenced the graphic imagery of social
movements from Diego Rivera’s murals to revolutionary movements
in the Americas, to the protest prints of “Occupy Wall
Street.” Yet, no single documentary exists that records their
contributions and influence on such subsequent and current
events. Together, we will tell their story.
Why Film This?
There are several reasons. The art Vanegas Arroyo and Posada
created contains universal themes that have inspired people
throughout the Americas. For audiences throughout the Americas,
the film will build understanding and appreciation of the power
of art to affect social change. At the same time it will honor
and record for the first time the little known Vanegas
Arroyo–Posada collaboration.
In addition, by revealing the Vanegas Arroyo–Posada
relationship in detail we hope to nurture a more educated
perspective and appreciation for the gifts of cultural diversity.
Through this film we will build a heightened sense of value, not
just of art, but how in collaboration with keen business savvy,
the power of imagery may help serve as a catalyst for change
toward achieving great things. We hope to connect viewers to a
historical tradition, one with a universal message, the other
with one filled with the pride of a rich heritage.
At the Tardeada you will hear the untold story of Jose Guadalupe
Posada and Antonio Vanegas Arroyo including tales of Art, Luche
