As with every band trying to make a name for itself in the music industry, Barú is no exception. Like any other band facing obstacles, the lack of support for the genre of Pop/Rock as compared to Reggaeton, Salsa, and Cumbia has further challenged Barú’s perseverance. With the frontman’s ability to flawlessly interpret music in both English and Spanish, the band has gained popularity. Additionally, the band has been characterized by some locales as one of the most talented bands in the Bay Area.
Barú is comprised of members who are of Latin American descent. Their countries of origin, Bolivia, Argentina, and Peru, give meaning to the acronym, Barú. Each member brings with him a style that fuses his cultural roots with his unique American experience.
Although Barú is one of the newest bands to hit the Pop/Rock scene in the bay area, the band has already begun to make itself known throughout many Latin venues. Barú’s original material touches on a number of issues such as today’s unemployment, alcoholism, depression, heartbreak, climate change and the destruction of the environment. Barú not only offers its originality to the industry, but it does so for both English and Spanish speaking audiences, singing lyrics native to the two largest audiences in the world.
