The San Francisco Symphony celebrates Latino culture in its fourth annual Día de los Muertos community concert.

It is conducted by SFS Resident Conductor Donato Cabrera with guest soloist Mexican tenor David Lomelí performing “Besáme Mucho”, “Granada” and other beloved Latin American favorites.

Come at 1pm for pre-concert entertainment and art in the Davies Symphony Hall lobbies, including:

– Ensambles Ballet Folklórico de San Francisco and musical group Vinikai
– Larger–than–life sculptures, and a village of paper mâché skeletons by Daniel Martinez
– Special 25–foot installation of Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent Aztec god, made of colorful chilies by Bay Area artist Victoria Canby
– Musically themed Day of the Dead altars and artwork by Victor Zaballa, Martina Ayala and Maria de la Rosa, and Mexico-based artists Lapiztola
- Performers from Circulo Cultural roaming the lobby in Day of the Dead-themed face paint and costumes
- Mexican sugar skull artist Irma Ortiz will give a sugar skull-making demonstration
- Large sugar skulls by artist Rob-O will be on display in the lobby

Bilingual activities for children will include making paper flowers and pipe-cleaner calaveras (skulls) as well as face painting and decorating calavera masks. The Festivities even include yummy treats! Complimentary Day of the Day bread—pan de muerto—will be served along with Mexican hot chocolate.
