The Women’s Building 33rd Annual Celebration of Craftswomen
November 11-13
The Women's Building 33rd Annual Celebration of Craftswomen takes place with new dates and at a new venue: November 11 to 13 at the Festival Pavilion in San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center, located at Buchanan Street and Marina Boulevard. From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day, the show features a dynamic roster with more than 160 craftswomen over the course of three days. The Celebration of Craftswomen is San Francisco's biggest holiday fine crafts retail fair, and the largest event exclusively celebrating the craft of women in America. Creating positive social impact, the Celebration of Craftswomen benefits the programs of The Women's Building, a community center serving women and girls in San Francisco. It is a unique opportunity to find gorgeous, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, fine crafts, and contemporary art.
An alternative holiday experience
Shoppers looking for unique substitutes to mass-produced goods will be delighted with the original hand-made offerings at the Celebration of Craftswomen. For 33 years, the fair has been part of the socio-political movement -- led by female artists -- that offers environmentally conscious and economically sustainable choices to mainstream consumption. Featuring imaginative and innovative work by some of the country's best female artisans and fine artists, quality has always been a hallmark of this highly anticipated annual holiday show.
A wide range of works and medias
Featured at the Celebration of Craftswomen are contemporary and traditional handcrafted items, such as functional and decorative ceramic and glass vessels; sculpted wood and works of metal; Polymer clay, beaded, stone and precious metal jewelry; woven, painted silk, leather items and other wearables; home furniture and accessories; fine art and sculpture; photography; watercolor and oil paintings.
Emerging Artist Program
For nearly three decades, in their jury selection process, The Women's Building has always been supportive of emerging artists. In 2006, “The Emerging Artist Program” was established to encourage diverse emerging artists (who have been selling their works to the public for less than 2 years) to apply, at a reduced price, to The Celebration of Craftswomen. At this year's fair look out for our emerging artists among the veteran craftswomen.
Presenter of the Celebration of Craftswomen
The fair's presenter, The Women's Building, is a multi-cultural community center where women and girls achieve self-sufficiency and pursue their dreams.
The Women's Building's programs include a free bilingual Spanish/English information and referral service, educational support for low-income adults, financial counseling, and community events that promote arts, culture, and discussion. In addition, The Women's Building houses ten diverse community groups and has helped launch more than 160 women's programs and initiatives in San Francisco. For the past three decades, The Women’s Building Celebration of Craftswomen has welcomed Bay Area residents, along with visitors from throughout the world, to discover the work of some of the nation’s best female artisans and fine artists.
